Scope:
This Special Interest Group (SIG)
supports Michigan ESL teachers and administrators in the following educational
institutions: universities, colleges, community colleges, Intensive English
Programs (IEP), English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programs, writing centers
and language schools.
Purpose:
The Professional Development
SIG provides opportunities and venues for administrators, advisors, teachers, and
supervisors to share ideas, collaborate on ESL projects, and improve the overall
quality of ESL education within the members' respective institutions.
Activities:

The SIG Listserv
is a forum for discussing new ideas and information within our profession

The SIG Representative
uses the Listserv to share information and news concerning the SIG, MITESOL and
TESOL
-
To join the Listserv,
please contact the SIG Representative

There will be SIG-sponsored
sessions at the annual MITESOL Conference
-
Annual general
meeting and informal discussion sessions at the MITESOL Conference
-
Member-initiated
projects, such as "Getting a Grip on Grammar" workshops, and various cultural
workshops that focus upon specific groups
-
Also, there will
be a variety of workshops and colloquia sessions during the year
Membership Participation:
Members are encouraged to
participate in the SIG by:

Volunteering as
workshop presenters, hosts and/or organizers

Sharing ideas,
lesson plans and resources
-
Proposing
SIG-sponsored sessions for the annual MITESOL Conference

Creating and
presenting colloquia sessions, projects and workshops
-
Discussing informal
or formal research agendas and projects

The current Professional

Elections for this position are held every two years at the MITESOL Conference.
