Post-Secondary Student
Programs Special Interest Group
Scope:
This Special Interest Group (SIG) supports Michigan ESL teachers and
administrators in universities, colleges, community colleges, Intensive English
Programs (IEPs), English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programs, writing centers
and language schools.
Purpose:
The Post-Secondary Student Programs SIG provides venues for teachers,
supervisors, advisors and administrators to share ideas, collaborate on
projects, and improve the quality of ESL education in the members'
institutions.
Activities:

The SIG listserv is a
forum for discussing our profession. The SIG representative uses the listserv
to share news and information from the SIG, MITESOL and TESOL. To join the
listserv, please contact the SIG representative.

SIG-sponsored sessions
at the annual MITESOL conference. For example, in 2007, Post-Secondary Student
Programs sponsored a panel discussion and a presentation on dealing with the
recent influx of students from the Middle East.

Annual general meeting
and informal discussion sessions at the MITESOL conference.

Member-initiated
projects, which have included socio-political affairs (now a separate
committee) and an ongoing project on admissions and transfer standards at
university and community college.

Workshops and colloquia
during the year.
Membership Participation
Members are encouraged to participate in the SIG by:

sending questions and
answers to the SIG listserv

sharing resources,
ideas, and lesson plans
-
proposing SIG-sponsored
sessions for the annual MITESOL Conference
-
suggesting and leading
projects, workshops and colloquia
Leadership
The current Post-Secondary Student Programs representative to the MITESOL
advisory board is Joel Boyd from Western
Michigan University
